Our Farm

Raising Cattle Responsibly

Since 1983

Laurel Oak Farm is a 6th generation family-owned Shorthorn Cattle Operation located in Western Pennsylvania.

Laurel Oak is focused on regenerative farming operations dedicated to the production of superior grass-fed and pasture-raised meats for our surrounding communities.

Our cattle are sustainably raised on 37 acres of land for purebred breeding programs and local freezer beef.

Our Story

Laurel Oak is owned by Lee and Shauna (Staranko) Scott, who both learned a love of animals from a young age and were active 4-Her's. Lee Scott is a 6th generation farmer and 4th generation Shorthorn breeder.  Taking over management of the homestead and transitioning the farm from a declining purebred operation to a purebred cow/calf opportunity, Lee has focused on producing high-quality cattle for freezer beef and breeding animals.

Over the past 5 years, the Scotts have created sustainable farming practices by studying research-based strategies for pasture grazing systems, optimal animal nutrition, and breeding decisions to enhance animal health.

We have implemented rotational grazing systems such as the Adaptive Multi-Paddock Grazing plan for the cattle herd and a USDA NRCS grazing plan integrated into the EQIP-sponsored water project that developed two springs on our property and now serves as a primary means of diverting stormwater runoff from our largest roofs. We've also diversified our nutrient management by composting cow manure via the hugelkultur method pioneered in the Austrian alps, which has helped better utilize the rich nutrients of our manure more fully.
